HC Deb 17 November 1987 vol 122 cc462-3W
Sir Fergus Montgomery

To ask the Secretary of Slate for Education and Science what is the average number of microcomputers in secondary schools; and if he is satisfied with the current standard of technological education at secondary level.

Mrs. Rumbold

The average number of microcomputers in maintained secondary schools in England is 14. The quality and breadth of technological education has improved considerably in recent years. The Government have proposed that technology should be one of the foundation subjects in the national curriculum. Subject to acceptance of these proposals, we expect to see further improvements in the standard of technological education at secondary level.
