§ Mrs. RumboldThe Government have provided earmarked support for the following GCSE related expenditure by the Trafford education authority. These allocations are made on a financial year basis.
Financial year 1986–87 £ 1987–88 £ Education Support Grant for GCSE books and equipment 67,700 48,000 Specific grant support for GCSE-related in-service training 35,080 73,000 Manpower Services Commission support for scientific and technological equipment 25,100 — In addition to earmarked support, the Government's expenditure plans for the financial year 1987–88 allow for some £90 million expenditure by local authorities overall on GCSE non-teaching costs, supported through rate support grant which is not earmarked for individual services. It is for the Trafford education authority to target the available resources as it sees fit.
