HC Deb 17 November 1987 vol 122 c524W
Mr. Cousins

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give (i) the total number of social security appeal tribunals held(a) nationally and (b) in Newcastle upon Tyne in each month in the 12 months ended 31 October and (ii) the average length of time from the date of the claim which gave rise to the appeal and the date of the hearing.

Mr. Portillo

National administrative statistics of social security appeal tribunals are not disaggregated for localities smaller than a social security region, and are produced only on a quarterly basis.

The figures in the table relate to the four quarters to 31 March 1987, the latest period for which statistics are available.

Statistics are not kept on the length of time between the original claim or decision appealed against and subsequent hearing, but only on the time between the lodgement of an appeal and hearing.
