§ Mr. Allan RobertsTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the difference between lead-free and unleaded petrol; and when he expects each to be widely available in the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. MoynihanUnleaded petrol is the technically correct way of referring to petrol to which no lead has been added. There is a British Standard Specification to which all unleaded petrol in the United Kingdom conforms. Lead-Free is simply a popular term for the fuel. As to availability, I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave to the hon. Member for Glasgow, Central (Mr. McTaggart) on Wednesday 4 November.
