Mr. McAllion

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on changes in private sector rent levels in Dundee since 1979, and on the Government's policy for such rent levels; and whether he plans any measures to protect tenants on low incomes in future.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

No information on private sector rent levels in general is held centrally. The Government's policy for the private rented sector in Scotland was set out in "Housing: The Government's Proposals for Scotland" (Cm. 242), published on Wednesday 11 November.
