HC Deb 09 November 1987 vol 122 cc9-10W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he intends to offer compensation from public funds to households in respect of storm damage on items like garden fences which could not he insured.

Mr. Chope

No. Although I have every sympathy for those who have suffered damage, the clearance and replacement of items that are not insured is financially a matter for individual property owners.

Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his Department's latest estimate of the costs to London local authorities of the storm damage sustained in October.

Mr. Chope

We do not yet have sufficiently reliable information to provide the estimate requested.
