41. Mr. Menzies Campbell

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he last met the chairman of the board of governors of the British Broadcasting Corporation; and what subjects they discussed.

On 29 and 30 September, to discuss the portrayal of violence and sex on television and the independent production initiative respectively.

58. Mr. Grocott

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he next plans to meet the chairman of the British Broadcasting Company; and what matters he will raise with him.

We will be keeping in close touch with the chairmen of the BBC and the IBA in the coming months over a range of broadcasting policy issues. Topics we have discussed with them in recent weeks include the portrayal of violence and sex on television and the independent production initiative.
