§ Mr. William Rossasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many sheep and lambs, and in what areas of Northern Ireland, are still under restriction for sale as a result of the nuclear accident at Chernobyl in the USSR.
§ Mr. Viggers[holding answer 2 November 1987]: When restrictions on movement and slaughter of sheep were introduced on 15 September 1987 a survey revealed the presence of approximately 35,000 sheep in the affected areas as follows:
Number Glenwherry, County Antrim 8,500 Glenshane, County Londonderry 21,000 Belraugh, County Londonderry 5,500 To date approximately 4,000 sheep have been monitored and released from restriction.
