HC Deb 04 November 1987 vol 121 c784W
87. Mr. Livingstone

asked the Secretary of State far Transport what account he has taken of recent developments in catalytic converters; and if he will now reconsider the case for fitting these converters to British cars.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

We keep in close touch with developments in vehicle technology. We will be tightening our legal emission standards when the relevant European directives have been finally adopted. We expect that catalysts will be needed in the 1990s on a substantial number of new cars registered in Britain.
