HC Deb 04 November 1987 vol 121 c746W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how much has been spent by his Department on advertising in national newspapers in each of the past five years; and if he will provide a breakdown by newspaper titles.

Mr. Rifkind

[holding answer 3 November 1987]: The total expenditure by my Department on advertising in Scottish national, regional and local newspapers for the past five years was:

£
1982–83 334,860
1983–84 387,400
1984–85 455,850
1985–86 318,560
1986–87 394,000

These figures include production costs. A breakdown of expenditure in national and local newspapers could be provided only at a disproportionate cost.
