HC Deb 02 November 1987 vol 121 c507W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Attorney-General if he will make a statement on the progress being made in the European Court of Justice on the case initiated by the Commission alleging that Her Majesty's Government are in breach of their Community obligations by not levying value added tax on housebuilders, gas, electricity and other items; and when he expects a judgment to be made by the court.

Mr. Brooke

I have been asked to reply. The oral hearing of the case to which my hon. Friend refers took place at the European Court of Justice on 15 September.

The Advocate General's opinion is to be delivered on 2 December. This will be followed by the court's judgment, which is expected early in the new year.
