HL Deb 02 November 1987 vol 489 c879WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will extend the period for comments on the consultation document on the proposed national curriculum for schools, since the original period was short and fell largely within the holiday season.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Education and Science (Baroness Hooper)

Some 7,000 organisations and individuals have already responded to the Government's national curriculum proposals. Although comments were requested by September 30th, consultation did not end on that date. Continuing public debate will inform Parliament's consideration of the framework to be established in the Education Bill, and the details of implementation will be set out in secondary legislation on which there will be further wide consultation.
