§ Mr. Ron Daviesasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he is satisfied with the operation and effectiveness of the terms of the Food and Environment Act 1986; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Donald Thompson[holding answer. 26 October 1987]Yes. The Food and Environment Protection Act 1985 has now been brought into effect. Part I has been useful in controlling the movement and slaughter of sheep from upland areas contaminated by radioactivity resulting from the Chernobyl accident. Part II has introduced improved controls over the disposal of waste at sea. For the Government's progress in implementing the powers in part III I refer the hon. Gentleman to the reply I gave to my hon. Friend, the Member for Harborough (Sir J. Farr), on 15 July (col.535).
