HC Deb 02 November 1987 vol 121 c520W
Mr. Aitken

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what proposals have been put to him for the construction of a high-speed rail link between London and the planned United Kingdom Channel tunnel terminus at Cheriton.

Mr. David Mitchell

None, British Rail is not due to report to me until June 1988 on the outcome of its study into the options for augmenting route, seating and terminal capacity for commuter and international services in Kent. This study, and the need for it, is referred to in the consultation document "Channel Tunnel: A Strategy for Kent" published by the Channel Tunnel Joint Committee impact study team and placed in the libraries of both Houses of Parliament on 17 August.
