§ Mr. Douglas HoggIt is the responsibility of the Dorset police authority to determine the authorised establishment of the force, subject to my right hon. Friend's approval. Seventy-one additional police posts have been approved for the force since May 1979, bringing the authorised establishment up to 1,235. The last increase was nine police posts approved with effect from 1 April 1987, which met in full the police authority's application for this financial year (1987–88).
