HC Deb 05 May 1987 vol 115 c391W
Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement on the policing of marches and funerals in the Province.

Mr. Scott

The control of public processions and similar events is the responsibility of the police who have a duty to ensure that the law is not broken or, if it is, that those responsible are dealt with in an appropriate manner. Sensitive operational judgments have frequently to he made and these depend on the circumstances of each case.
