HC Deb 05 May 1987 vol 115 c342W
Mr. Cohen

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what estimate he has made of the additional cost arising in (a) compensation payments, (b) redundancy and (c) other payments as a result of the Government's delay in finalising the terms for staff compensation as a result of the abolition of the metropolitan county councils; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Chope

None. The report of the London and metropolitan government staff commission has noted that the attitude of the trade unions was in large measure responsible for the delay in settling the compensation terms.
