§ Mr. Williamsasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the complement of lawyers in the Inland Revenue; how many of these posts are unfilled; and what percentage of lawyers in post have been in the Civil Service for five years or more.
§ Mr. Lawson[pursuant to his reply, 30 March 1987, c. 394]: The current complement of lawyers in the Solicitor's Office (England and Wales) is 58 and Solicitor's Office (Scotland) five. The latest staff in post in England and Wales is 53, a shortfall of five. There is no shortfall in Scotland. Seventy-five per cent. of the Department's lawyers have been in the Civil Service for five years or more.
