HC Deb 18 March 1987 vol 112 cc543-4W
26. Mr. Sims

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if Her Majesty's Government will offer to act as intermediary in efforts to negotiate an end to communal violence in Sri Lanka; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Eggar

We have not been asked, neither would we wish to become involved in Sri Lanka's internal problems. We have made clear to all parties involved our view that a negotiated settlement is the best way to a lasting peace.
