HC Deb 13 March 1987 vol 112 c323W
Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for Defence under what circumstances service personnel are permitted to use military vehicles for the transport of their privately-owned horses to the hunting field, polo matches or other equestrian events.

Mr. Freeman

Within certain limits equestian sports, like other sports, arc recognised activities for public financial support for the travel of participants, officials and essential equipments (including horses). Sports travel must be undertaken by the cheapest means. I am not aware of any instances where approval has been given for the movement of privately owned horses by military transport.
