HC Deb 09 March 1987 vol 112 c39W
28. Mr. Meadowcroft

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what studies his Department is currently conducting into the energy potential of wind power; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. David Hunt

Modelling studies of the energy content of the wind are being undertaken, taking into account United Kingdom topography and land use. We believe wind energy to be one of the most promising renewable energy sources for generating electricity in this country. Since 1979, my department has spent some £20 million on a broad programme of research and development work for generating electricity from the wind and is currently spending around £4 to £5 million per year.
