HC Deb 09 March 1987 vol 112 cc39-40W
29. Mr. Wallace

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will list his Department's current incentives for energy efficiency in industry.

Mr. David Hunt

Energy efficiency measures offer attractive and cost-effective savings without the need for Government subsidy. Our programmes in the non-domestic sector are designed to make consumers aware of the financial benefits of improved energy efficiency and give them the advice and information they need to manage their energy more effectively.

Our existing programmes include:

  • (i) the energy efficiency survey scheme which provides expert advice at site level through the provision of grants for up to 50 per cent. of the cost of an independent energy survey;
  • (ii) the monitoring and targeting programme under which improved systems of energy management are being developed for major sectors of industry and commerce;
  • (iii) for energy efficiency R & D demonstration scheme programmes which help to develop and disseminate new technology.

In addition, the EEO provides a range of general information and advice to industry through such initiatives as the Breakfast Briefing Campaign and its support of the energy management movement.
