HC Deb 09 March 1987 vol 112 c5W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he has met Play Board to discuss the arrangements for changes in the national children's play service; what plans he has to ensure that the service will continue; what cash amounts he has dispensed annually to Play Board; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Play Board—the Association for Children's Play and Recreation Ltd — is funded primarily by the Department of the Environment, and my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State—the Minister with responsibilities for sport—has held discussions with Play Board and other bodies concerned with children's play. The Welsh arm of Play Board received grant contributions of £50,000 provided via the Sports Council for Wales in 1984–85, 1985–86 and 1986–87. The arrangements for funding the development of children's play in Wales are under review.
