HC Deb 09 March 1987 vol 112 cc4-5W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what representations he has had from farmers' unions in Wales concerning Her Majesty's Government's plan to charge dairy farmers £90 per visit for inspections under the Milk and Dairy Regulations; what is his estimate of the cost of implementing this measure; and what is the estimated annual sum to be raised by the £90 visit fee in an average year.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

The farming unions in Wales have made many representations to me concerning the charges which are being introduced for work under the Milk and Dairies Regulations. The total cost of this work in England and Wales is approximately £2 million, and we expect to recover this by charging £90 for a dairy farm visit—£80 for producers with less than 20 cows—and £22 for a sampling/ testing visit.
