§ 66. Mr. Jesselasked the Minister for the Arts if he will list (a) recent and (b) planned extensions to national museums and galleries.
§ Mr. LuceThe most significant developments are as follows:
Imperial War Museum
- Superhangar at Duxford. Opened in 1986.
Victoria and Albert Museum
- Theatre Museum in Covent Garden. To be opened in April 1987.
National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside
- Maritime Museum. A further phase to be opened in 1987
Tate Gallery
- Clore Gallery extension. To be opened in April 1987. Tate in the North. Due to be opened in 1988.
Imperial War Museum
- Redevelopment and extension of existing building. A major project due for completion in 1988–89.
National Gallery

- Sainsbury Wing. Designs to be announced shortly.
In addition, a number of museums and galleries have redesigned and refurbished areas within their existing buildings to provide new gallery space.
