asked the Minister for the Arts what is his estimate of total consumer expenditure on the arts.

In 1984, the last year for which figures are available, consumer expenditure on the arts, on the broadest definition, was estimated on the basis of figures collected by the Central Statistical Office to be in the region of £10.5 billion.
