HC Deb 09 March 1987 vol 112 c14W
Mr. Michie

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what has been the effect of bus deregulation on the coverage and frequency of services in rural and suburban areas during early morning, evening and Sundays.

Mr. David Mitchell

The level of services has been broadly maintained over the country as a whole, and most local authorities have successfully provided support for these services which they consider necessary on social grounds. Naturally in some cases they have withdrawn support for low priority services carrying few passengers on good housekeeping grounds.
