HC Deb 24 July 1987 vol 120 c499W
Mr. Denis Howell

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he intends to include representatives of swimming associations in the working group on physical education to he set up within the framework of the Government's proposals for a national curriculum.

Mrs. Rumbold

Members of subject working groups are being appointed for their personal knowledge and expertise, not as representatives of institutions or bodies. Each subject working group will have a small membership comprising a chairman and members drawn mainly from the headteachers and teachers of primary and secondary schools, local education authority advisers, higher education and the world of exployment. The intention is that, between them, members will have knowledge of and expertise in all the major aspects of their foundation subjects.
