HC Deb 24 July 1987 vol 120 c610W
Mr. Cryer

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make it his policy to hold over any announcement of his decision on the retention of the Settle-Carlisle railway until after the House reassembles following the Summer Adjournment; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. David Mitchell

I am also under pressure to end the uncertainty over the future of the Settle-Carlisle line. I intend to make an announcement as soon as the considerable work involved in preparing for a decision is complete and Ministers have come to a conclusion.
