asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will publish figures showing average pay for speech therapists, clinical psychologists, biochemists, physicists, hospital pharmacists and opticians in Northern Ireland for the last five years.

Mr. Needham

Information is not readily available in the form requested but the maximum point on the basic salary scale for staff employed by Health and Social Services boards in each of the professions was as follows:

There has not yet been a pay settlement for any of these professions for the current year.

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what pay awards were made in the current year to each of the graduate professions within the National Health Service; and what representations he has received since these awards.

Mr. Needham

A pay award of 8.25 per cent. has been made in the current year to hospital and community medical and dental staff. Pay increases for other graduate professions have not been agreed yet. No representations have been received.
