HC Deb 24 July 1987 vol 120 c629W
Rev. Martin Smyth

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what representations he has received from individuals who were unable to vote in the recent general election because they did not have one of the prescribed documents; and whether he plans to make any modifications to the list of prescribed documents required before issue of a ballot paper.

Mr. Stanley

The Northern Ireland Office is not aware of any such representations other than in two letters received from the hon. Member. I understand, however, that a number of representations have been made to the Chief Electoral Officer. We have no current plans for changes to the list of specified documents, but we are reviewing the arrangements in the light of recent experience.
