§ Mr. Ron Daviesasked the Secretary of State for Wales in respect of land within environmentally sensitive areas, how many farmers have applied to enter into management agreements in each of these areas and what is the total area 664W of land involved; and how many agreements have so far been concluded with farmers in each of these areas, and what is the total area of land involved.
§ Mr. Peter Walker[pursuant to his reply, 23 July 1987]: There have been 150 applicants to enter management agreements in the Cambrian mountains ESA. Until the applications are finalised the area of land involved cannot be assessed. Five agreements have so far been concluded involving 817 hectares.
§ Mr. Ron Daviesasked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will give the extent in hectares of the Cambrian mountains environmentally sensitive area, the total area of agricultural land within the environmentally sensitive area, and an estimate of the number of farmers eligible to enter into management agreements in that area.
§ Mr. Peter Walker[pursuant to his reply, 23 July 1987]: The Cambrian mountains ESA covers 72,800 hectares of which 53,900 hectares is agricultural land excluding woodland. About 400 farmers are likely to be eligible for management agreements.
