HC Deb 24 July 1987 vol 120 c678W
Mr. Irving

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will take steps to ensure that condoms sold in the United Kingdom must conform to the British Standards Institute and carry the BSI kite mark of quality testing and control.

Mr. Newton

There are no plans to control the sale of condoms, but we endorse the advice issued by the Family Planning Association that people should check that condoms conform to British Standard BS 3704. General guidance for the health service urges Health Authorities to purchase only products which conform to British Standard specifications.
