HC Deb 24 July 1987 vol 120 c711W
Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when he expects to be able to make a statement on the outcome of the discussions between his Department and interested groups about arrangements to help claimants with their appeals against local office decisions on social security claims.

Mr. Portillo

It is desirable that appellants to social security Tribunals should be provided with a list of local agencies who may be willing to represent them at the appeal. Local Office Managers will investigate in their areas whether a voluntary organisation is willing and able to compile such a list, which can then be issued by the DHSS local office. Where such arrangements cannot be made, local office managers will be asked to compile and issue the list.
