Mr. Barry Field

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what are the statistics for accidents among local government employees over the last five years; and what information he has on rates of accidents in comparable activities in the private sector.

¨ not available, because the industrial injury benefit scheme, which was the source of this information, effectively ceased in April 1983.

The category of employees in local government service is as defined in MLH 906 of the 1968 standard industrial classification. Information for comparable activities within the private sector could only be obtained at disproportionate cost.

Data collected under the new reporting regulations, which came into force in April 1986 are not yet available.
