HC Deb 23 July 1987 vol 120 cc428-9W
Mr. Maclennan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what report he has received from the Campaign Against Dounreay Expansion on the radioactivity levels in the vicinity of Dounreay, based upon the findings of a study conducted by Dr. Robert Wheaton; and if he will make a statement.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

No report of this nature has been received from the Campaign Against Dounreay Expansion. My right hon. and learned Friend is, however, aware of Dr. Wheaton's findings and is satisfied that they are consistent with the results obtained from the official environmental monitoring surveys around Dounreay. The results, which are contained in Scottish Department "Statistical Bulletin" No. 1(E) 1987, confirm that the levels of radioactivity are equivalent, in terms of doses to people, to a very small fraction of the internationally agreed limits for members of the public.
