Mr. Foulkes

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will list all occasions on which there have been general reviews of development area status and any changes to the status of particular areas between the reviews in each case.

Mr. Atkins

Development areas were designated under the Distribution of Industry Act 1945. Since then, several general reviews have taken place, the two most recent being in 1979 and 1984. Details of changes in the status of
