HC Deb 23 July 1987 vol 120 cc305-6W
Mr. McCrindle

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what representations he has received calling for a statutory code covering the use of cash cards; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Maude

I have received no such representations, although I understand that the idea of a statutory code for card issuers has been put forward in recent evidence to the review committee on banking services law.

Mr. McCrindle

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he has any plans to seek to ban card issuers mailing unsolicited cash cards; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Maude

I have no plans to introduce legislation to control the way in which cash cards are issued. Unsolicited mailing of credit cards is already prohibited under section 51 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.
