asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assistance Her Majesty's Government have provided to Tanzania in support of its economic reform programme.

After Tanzania reached agreement with the International Monetary Fund last August we made an initial pledge of £25 million, all for fast disbursing balance of payments support. When I visited Tanzania in March I committed a further £25 million for development projects, the railway sector and, subject to the reform programme being maintained, for additional balance of payments support.
