HC Deb 20 July 1987 vol 120 c22W
73. Mr. Stanbrook

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is his estimate of the cost of allowing for war service in the pensions of members of the Overseas Civil Service; and how the estimate is calculated.

Mr. Chris Patten

We estimate that the cost could be perhaps £5 to £6 million a year. The estimate is based on a sample of Colonial Service pension files. In some instances, information on war service was missing or incomplete. The estimate, therefore, is subject to a significant margin of error.
