§ Mr. John PattenThere are now over 35,000 Neighbourhood Watch Schemes spread throughout the police force areas of England and Wales. We are about to begin consultations with interested parties about the formation of an organisation to stimulate and support local crime prevention activity including Neighbourhood Watch. We also propose to produce a guidance note for distribution to police forces and the public setting out good practice to help the development of effective neighbourhood watch schemes.
