HC Deb 15 July 1987 vol 119 cc528-9W
36. Mr. Chapman

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will restate the Government's policy on the 4.5 million acres of established green belt land in England.

Mr. Waldegrave

The Government's policy on green belts remains as set out in Department of the Environment Circular 14/84. There must continue to be a general presumption against inappropriate development within green belts. Planning guidelines have been issued in Circular 12/87 for redundant sites in green belts.
