§ Mr. Fearnasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has any plans to accept European Economic Community recommendations on standards of bathing water.
§ Mr. Moynihan391 bathing waters in the United Kingdom are accepted as being within the scope of Council directive 76/160/EEC. My hon. Friend the Member for Bristol, West (Mr. Waldegrave) announced on 30 April, at Column 186, the results for the 1986 survey of bathing waters in England, Northern Ireland and Wales. These showed that more than 60 per cent. of these waters already meet the directive's standards. Our intention is that all indentified waters should do so.
