Mr. Kirkwoodasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if, in considering the recommendations of the Monopolies and Mergers Commission with regard to the British Sugar Corporation, he will make it his policy to consider the implications of any decision for Third world sugar producers.
§ Mr. HowardMy right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has discretion to take action following a merger report only if the commission finds that a proposed merger might be expected to operate against the public interest. Until the commission's report is published, I cannot comment on the outcome of the report.
