§ Mr. Dalyellasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the terms of reference and expected timetable of the Home Office review of the forensic science service.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggThe contribution of the Home Office forensic science service to the investigation and detection of crime is being considered as part of a wide-ranging review of the scientific support required by the police service in England and Wales and how this might best be provided. A separate exercise is about to be undertaken to measure the work being done in the operational laboratories of the forensic science service. The terms of reference for this study are to be discussed with the departmental trade union side shortly. Both reviews are expected to have been completed by August 1987.
