To whom the task of reviewing the North-East drift-net fishing is to be entrusted, since it is excluded from the remit of the Salmon Advisory Committee.
§ The Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Lord Belstead)Under Section 39 of the Salmon Act 1986, the responsibility for preparing a report which reviews the nature and extent of salmon netting in the North-East of England and in eastern Scotland is placed upon my right honourable friends the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Secretary of State for Scotland. The report is to be prepared as soon as practicable after November 1989 and to be laid before Parliament. As my right honourable friend the Minister of State (Commons) made clear in another place on 10th June (Hansard, Standing Committee D, cols. 639–640), the Salmon Advisory Committee has a substantial programme of work on other salmon questions and the review required by Section 39 will be conducted by Ministers as a separate exercise.
