HC Deb 12 January 1987 vol 108 cc75-6W
Mr. Wheeler

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether Mr. Babu Lal Gupta, then a diplomat at the Indian High Commission, claimed diplomatic immunity in the course of police inquiries into drug trafficking; whether the Indian High Commission permitted him to be interviewed; when official inquiries into allegations of drug trafficking were completed; and when Mr. Gupta left the United Kingdom.

Mr. Brooke

As the inquiries were undertaken by HMCE and not the police, I have been asked to reply.

I have today answered a related question from my hon. Friend and I would refer him to that answer.

Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people were charged with (a) possession of heroin and (b) dealing in heroin in 1978, and in each year since, in the Metropolitan police area.

Mr. Mellor

The table gives the available information, which relates to the number of persons proceeded against for these offences.
