asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on aid to Tanzania.

In recent years the focus of our programme to Tanzania has been on projects in agriculture, transport and health. We have also maintained a substantial programme of technical cooperation. Last June we offered Tanzania £25 million of programme aid to support economic reforms agreed with the IMF. Some £15 million has been committed so far, mainly for agriculture and transport.

I hope to visit Tanzania soon to see something of our aid programme at first hand.
