Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales (1) what was the average cost of treatment for each patient in each Welsh health authority area, and in Wales in general, in the last full year for which figures are available; and what are the corresponding figures for each year since 1979 at current and outturn prices;

(2) what has been the percentage change in the average cost of a course of hospital treatment under the National Health Service in Wales since 1979.

  2. 2. Prior to 1982–83 the Dyfed area health authority covered the whole county.
  3. 3. From 1982–83 to 1984–85 the East Dyfed health authority was responsible for the Dyfed Family Practitioner Committee which covered the whole county.
  4. 4. From 1 April 1985 the responsibility for family practitioner services was transferred from health authorities to independent family practitioner committees
