HC Deb 09 February 1987 vol 110 cc125-6W
Mr. George Robertson

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment who authorised the use of Lancaster house by Mr. Le Pen, Member of the European Parliament and others; what it is to be used for; if it is available for booking by other Members of the European Parliament and hon. and right hon. Members of this House; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Chope

Lancaster house is used mainly for purposes of Government hospitality and, less frequently, for conferences. The rule governing use of the building under successive Governments is that a Minister must be involved in meetings there. The European Parliament has arranged meetings from time to time, and a booking had been taken from it for later this month for an unspecified purpose. That booking has now been cancelled because it does not satisfy the rule.
